Don't know what to do with those old-school t-shirts that you just can't bear to part with but you will never wear again? I solved this dilemma for my partner who is a big punk & ska fan and has enough band t-shirts to clothe the population of Tanzania for a whole year! These canvases that have pride of place above his genre-classified CD collection used to be t-shirts that he never wore, but couldn't bear to part with to the salvo's bin. They are so easy to make, just get a plain el-cheapo canvas (these are both 40cm x 31cm).
Here's how to:
1. split the t-shirt in half by cutting all the way around the seams.
2. place the section with the print you want displayed on the canvas, making sure its even and balanced (be careful not to stretch it at this point as t-shirt material is much stretchier than normal cotton and it can become warped if pulled.)
3. flip the canvas over carefully, making sure the print doesn't move. Carefully pull one edge across towards the middle of the canvas, but don't pull too tightly otherwise the material will look warped. Staple with a staple gun at various intervals along the wooden frame. Continue this process on all 4 edges, periodically checking that the print on the other side is still in the desired position.
4. And voila!! There you have a cool rock'n'roll canvas made with tender loving care!
These make great presents, just make sure you double check that the t-shirt is no longer needed... boys tend to be very protective of their band t-shirts....
happy crafting!!

That's a neat idea! I wish I would have kept my old logo t-shirt. Go Ramones!
Cute blog you have here!
Brilliant idea!
I've got a whole collection of band t-shirts (mostly rolling stones) that I don't wear because I don't want to get anything on them, tear them, etc. I can't wait to fill my walls with them :-)
